About

I’m Sheila Rud, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Rud-Wilkins Counseling. I primarily work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, depression, grief, and major life transitions.

I believe therapy should be a place where you feel heard, understood, and accepted — but also a place where meaningful change can happen. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can be honest about what you’re experiencing, better understand yourself, and work toward feeling more grounded, confident, and connected.

My approach

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy

Every person brings their own experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals into the therapeutic relationship. I tailor our work to what you need, drawing on the approaches below.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Understanding the patterns of thought and behavior that keep you stuck.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Developing healthier ways to manage difficult and overwhelming emotions.
EMDR
Processing past experiences so they carry less weight in the present.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Identifying your strengths and practical steps that move things forward.
Mindfulness-based approaches
Building self-awareness and steadiness in the moments that feel hardest.

I believe therapy should be both compassionate and practical. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. We can start exactly where you are and work from there.

What you can expect from me

One of the things my clients often tell me they appreciate is my ability to relate to them on both a personal and professional level. Therapy is not just about applying techniques — it’s about building a relationship where you feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to grow.

I offer honest, empathetic, and encouraging feedback. I will listen without judgment, but I also won’t simply tell you what you want to hear. Sometimes meaningful growth comes from looking at something from a different perspective, recognizing a pattern, or having an honest conversation about what may need to change.

My role is not to tell you what you should do. It is to help you understand yourself, clarify what you want, and develop the insight and tools to make choices that are right for you.

Therapy can also be comfortable, conversational, and even include a little humor when appropriate. You don’t have to sit on a couch and feel like you’re being analyzed.

A little about me

I have been practicing as a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2011. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with adults through some of the most difficult, challenging, and meaningful seasons of their lives.

I believe people are capable of change, even when they don’t feel particularly hopeful about it. Sometimes we simply need a safe place to slow down, make sense of what we’re experiencing, and have someone walk alongside us while we figure out what comes next.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. My hope is that from our first conversation, you feel comfortable being yourself and know that you don’t have to navigate everything alone.
